How to Fix Your Email Issues

Whether you are using a smartphone, tablet, or a computer (desktop/laptop) and are having email issues (i.e. you can't get email), we always recommend doing four things first:

1) Check your internet connection (or WiFi) to see if you are properly connected. Go to www.google.com to see if it comes up.

2) Check your username and password to see if they are correct. Sometimes you may have to reset your username and password (usually on the screen there is a “change my username/password” button. Click that to reset it). If you are having trouble resetting them, contact us – we’ll be more than happy to help!

3) Check your settings on your email if you are able to log in. Sometimes there is a setting that is off or set to do something that is causing trouble. (The settings button looks like a cogwheel or like three bars stacked on top of each other that we call the menu button. Click that and read all the settings)

4) Lastly, reboot: turn your device off, wait a few seconds, and then turn it on again. Then check your email again to see if it’s working.

We have found that these four things sometimes fix the problem all by themselves. If that fixes the problem, great! If not, read on for additional help.

Advanced Troubleshooting

For more advanced troubleshooting, try these tips to help narrow down the root cause of your email issue:

Check your Ports – Check your settings on your phone and see what ports your email is using. Here is a list of the ports your phone should be using if you are a Triad Hosting customer: Email Setup. If you have trouble finding where your email ports are in the settings, we recommend Googling it. Type in “how to find email ports for (your device type/name/operating system)”.

Has your domain name expired? Click this link (www.godaddy.com/whois) and type in your domain name (website name) to see if it has expired. If it has, you will need to register it again. Your account is handled either by Triad Hosting or by another company (GoDaddy will tell you which one it is). If it is handled through Triad Hosting, please contact us if it has indeed expired.

Remove then add back your account on your device. Go into Settings, remove or delete your email account from your device, then reboot your device. After you reboot it, go into Settings and add it back (using the same username and password, and the same ports). This helps reset your device and hopefully allows you to get your email again.

If you have followed all of these steps or are having trouble with them and your email still isn’t working…
