Hosting / FTP / FTP Instructions

In order to FTP files on your website, there are several things you need in order for it to work. We at Triad Hosting will provide them for you when needed.

  1. the port number. You need that for FTP / SFTP to work.
  2. the FTP username and password.
  3. the Host address.

After you gather that information, go to FileZilla or another FTP client (FileZilla is free).

When trying to connect to your website to FTP files up and down, change the setting to FTP or SFTP (SFTP is more secure). NOTE: as of 2025 you should ONLY use SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocal).

Put in the port number and the login username and password. Make the host name ftp.xxxx.com  (xxxx.com is the URL). It must have the ftp. in front, or you will not be able to connect.

If you have walked through all of these steps, it should work. If it does not, please contact us for assistance.

* Note: please remember to back up all files first onto your computer BEFORE making file changes in FileZilla / FTP! It does NOT automatically back up files for you. In case you make a mistake, you may need to upload those files again. Always back up the files you want to change by downloading the original ones to your computer first, then update those files on FTP.
